We come to San Antonio every summer and always eat at the Magic Time Machine and usually have a great experience. This year was totally the opposite. The server took several minutes to acknowledge us. We were ready to order and she brought out our drinks with the salad and appetizer. Then maybe three minutes later our food was brought out. We did not have time to eat our appetizer or salad first. They should not have been brought out together. The food was poorly made. My niece had the shrimp pasta and the pasta and sauce had no flavor and the shrimp had the tails still attached. I had the prime rib and the meat was mostly fat and there was a hard crust on the top. The vegetables were slimy and under cooked. I felt like we got the bums rush and were hurried out of the restaurant. We normally have great service and food, but this time we did not.

This is the place to entertain out-of-town guests if they enjoy a good time and good food. The servers always have a joke to tell and their costumes are fun to see. Young or old, everyone will have a good time.

The food was very good however, we had "the rabbit" as our waiter and he was already frustrated when he came to the table, he was fussy and therefore rude, even after asking him to stop when we were all tired of it. He even quietly chastised a child who wanted his signature. His character is supposed to be in a hurry, not rude. I took my friend put to dinner for her birthday and he just totally ruined her first visit to your restaurant.

The restaurant is really great. However, I was celebrating my birthday. At the end of the meal the server gave me a dessert menu and told me to pick anything on the menu. I was surprised that I had to pay for it otherwise I would not have ordered it.

All food ordered came out at room temperature, only 1 dish was hot. My center cut steak was ordered at medium, but came out medium rare. Salad bar was kind of small, some of the items from there tasted off. The food was plentiful, just need the temperature consistency.

I haven’t been to this restaurant since it opened in 1973. We’re both still around, and that’s a good thing. Food was good. Wild and crazy atmosphere for a restaurant. Waitperson, Lady Gaga, was crazy good... Superb!

Service was more than excellent, out waiter was the Napoleon Dynamite character and he was outstandingly entertaining. Atmosphere was quite fun, the children were entranced and even adults found it entertaining. The food was overpriced and poor quality.

Got seated immediately, then pretty much ignored until I got up to say something to the hostess. She made excuses for them, then they made excuses once they realized I called them out. They did try harder, but the damage had been done. I should have spent my $115 dollars elsewhere.

While the prime rib was awesome, the entertainment was far beyond expectations. I would have to say that this was the most enjoyable dinner entertainment I have experienced in my MANY years of dining out (Lady Gaga I live you!).

Waiter (Thor) was fantastic. Service was great! Food was a let down. Chopped steak was burned and dry. Chicken Alfredo was dry and lacked sauce. Chicken Parmesan was dry lacked sauce. Bbq chicken was dry, was not fresh. The steaks were ok, mashed potatoes were also dry and clumpy. First time food was so bad. I expect better from Magic Time Machine.

The salad bar is yummy, other food was ok. Ordered surf and turf (medium rare) - steak was well done and tough. Server was Amazing! ‘Ace Ventura’ was very entertaining but most importantly he was a very good waiter. Kept beverages fresh and made sure we had everything we needed. Unique place to visit. Restaurant seemed very dirty and a bit dark. The carpet was sticky! I was pleased with the fresh fruits and veggies, but the cooked food was disappointing. The meat was over cooked and very dry. We paid quite a bit for a rather dissatisfying meal.

We paid for our food they didn't give it to us for free. My feed back fire the cook. Management never came to our table to apologize. I will report them to health inspector

When using a certificate from restaurant.Com we were told we had to spend at minimum $100. When our server brought the bill we were at $81 and ask us if we wanted another drink or dessert to reach $100. We ended up taking 3 desserts home with our total around $101 and added a tip of $25 after the certificate of $50 was applied. Disappointed to say the least.

The building was neat but the service was super slow and non responsive. Everything took forever. We were taken to our table and it wasn’t ready so we stood for almost 10 minutes waiting for someone to come clean it. Our servers were giving most of their attention to the larger tables and did not refill drinks at all. Took over 30 minutes to finish taking care of the bill after we had finished eating. Very poor service all around. Very disappointing.

Our waitress (Dora the Explorer) was great. We took our grand-daughters and they loved it. We have been coming here for over 20 years and the food has gotten so much better. We all loved our meals which was not always the case. We look forward to returning.

Our server was the best part of our experience here. He was major Payne and he did a great job! Was really glad we got in his section, otherwise we would have been really disappointed with the restaurant. I got the spinach artichoke pasta with fried shrimp and it was awful. The pasta tasted like noodles and whipped cream, and the artichoke “hearts” were just a couple pieces of artichoke leaves. I ate a couple bites and left it. The face painter could have done a better job and been more friendly too. She was watching a movie on her phone and never turned it off. The food was overpriced and not good, but our server was fantastic.

Steak was undercooked. Service took way too long. Server was double sat with two large tables. Therefore, took over 20 minutes to get our drinks, 20 minutes to take our order, and Took over an hour to get our food. Overall, dinner took over 3 hours. Way too long. The food was decent. I felt for the price point it should have had...something else. The seafood Alfredo for example was full of seafood- lots of points for that—but there was almost no flavor to the sauce. I felt that was about the seafood prime rib as well. The meat was great but the stuffing had no flavor. The appetizers unfortunately fell in the same category. I suppose you really go for the restaurant experience tho, the entertainment value is outstanding.

We loved the interaction with the staff and the fun atmosphere. Each character was quick witted and got more entertaining the more we engaged them. Food was fair to middlin' as my grandmother would say. The desserts are enormous though. THAT thrilled the young adults in our party!

the server spilt a drink on my daughter which also got on her new Coach purse and white shirt, our drinks were filled 1x during the entire evening, no condiments were offered when food was served (so our food got cold while waiting for ketchup, steak sauce, and tartar sauce). not one time did any manager come by to ask how we were doing :(

Decor is wacky tacky odd themed rooms. The real fun is the servers dressed up in costumes acting out their character parts. We loved the Harry Potter, Hunter Games, Jasmine, and Thor servers in costumes. They say and do weird and wacky things to make you laugh. Come to this restaurant for a good laugh and good food.

The service was terrible. The waiter was paying more attention to a bigger party. Didn't get drinks refilled, only had my order taken and saw the waiter three times, once to take the order, show us the salad bar and bringing the check, which took a long time to take care of. I had to get the manager involved but he didn't have any compasion.

Where do I start? Our appetizer was freezer burnt and very overcooked. I have had calamari there before that was done well so I know this was off. My pasta was overcooked and pastey. LOTS of fun! We went at 5:40 (they open at 5:30) on a Monday, and already had close to an hour wait. Napoleon Dynamite was our server and he was hilarious! The layout and decor is unique and a lot of fun. The food itself is good--not excellent, but definitely good. Overall, would go back, especially with a coupon!

My family was visiting from California and my 12 yr. old niece says "This is my favorite restaurant ever".We had Thor as our waiter. Even when our table was tense due to our own personal moments, the waiter always seemed to lighten up the mood with his humor. We loved it!

As we parked prior to our dining experience, the vehicle next to us had just had its window broken and items stolen (in daylight). The restaurant has a sign stating the parking is public parking and they are not responsible for incidents. However, this makes one a bit skeptical about parking there, as supposedly the victim was told thefts happen frequently in the parking lot. Is there something Magic Time Machine can do (provide parking lot security?) to keep their guests and their property safe?

This was my second visit. My first was a few years ago and I was not sure I would be back as the performance was a bit lackluster.. but about this time. I have read the reviews and when I got there, we were assigned a table with "Lady Gaga" as our waitress. We were celebrating my daughters 12th Birthday and wanted things to be fun. She was a sweet heart, and what really made the evening a blast is the way the other characters would interact. The kids also could wander around getting pictures with the characters and their autographs! Some of the costumes were great and some so so, but everyone was fun. Deadpool, the White Ninja, Elrond, katniss and Nacho Libre were just a few of the very entertaining. Elrond sung happy birthday in elvish. Now to the food! I specifically asked the waitress as I had read the reviews what she recommended. She recommended steaks and pasta. We all followed her advice and all of the food was outstanding. The spinach artichoke dip could have been a bit warmer, but it was eaten so fast it was not that important. The fresh made cheesecake was excellent as well. We will definitely visit again based on this experience.

While the salad bar is great, the food is just ok. The attraction is the novel characters of the servers and their ability to portray that character. Ace Ventura was spot on hilarious until he got too busy. Not only did the service suffer but so did his ability to portray the character. I understand that tips are their compensation but restaurant should not overload one server at risk of compromising the experience. We will have second thoughts about returning certainly depending on the occasion.

We purposely picked a slow time to go in and enjoy what was supposed to be my daughter's 9th birthday. We were seated fairly quickly and was greeted by our server in a fair amount of time. We didn't have an exceptionally large party. Four adults and two children. From start to finish was over two hours. There were tables that came in after us and left well before we did. Everything from ordering drinks to getting our food to even asking for the menu to order desserts took forever. I checked the timestamp on our first bill and it was marked 5:37. We left almost an hour later and the only thing that happened in that time frame was asking for the dessert menu, ordering the dessert and eating it. Even the birthday girl got her celebratory song late. He put her plate down with the candle on top and turned around to take care of the next table, candle unlit and no hoopla. We had heard three other tables get their song so we were excited to hear what my daughter's version would be and he caught on only after we asked him to light the candle for us. Ive never been so disappointed in my life with this restaurant and I didn't even have the heart to ask for a manager and ruin her dinner. Our friend who joined us made it a point to say something cause it was just that bad.

My daughter had a 16 birthday last year and we went there and she loved it so we went again just me and my kids and they loved it again, we feel so welcome, and everybody has a great sense of humor and it just feels lite and relaxing and fun!!! The waitress was fabulous; she played the character Katniss from the Hungar Games. The salad bar was very poor; we arrived right when the resturant opened & the salad bar looked as if it was almost closing time. There were very few selections and did not look fresh. They truly need to improve the salad bar better.

The temperature outside was 108 that day, the building is old and the air condition was not cool enough. The booth we were in did not have enough air circulating. As a result I became dehydrated. This was the only bad dinning experience I had at this restaurant.

The Magic Time Machine is completely about the atmosphere and characters. When you have a good, seasoned, fun crew working it is a blast!!! I have beenn to both locations and believe that the San Antonio location blows the Addison location away. Face Painting and Balloon Guy rounds out this family fun dinner. Whenever we go to San Antonio (about once a year) we go here!

Though the experience is tailored towards fun, it would be nice if the food preperation was better. The 1/2 & 1/2 which I awyays order has great chicken but the ribs are ALWAYS tough. The fries should be crispier. The steaks are cooked right but not marinated or tenderized so they are consistently tough. Never order pasta here it is just plain poor & the sauces taste of budget cans. Mash potatoes & bread are good, grilled veggies are ok. Spinach dip is ok. wine glasses are small. If it were not for the service we would never come here. In fact my wife is lobbying for Willies which she says has better food & is kid friendly. As a former employee some 25yrs ago I would like to see the place do better. I don't think the improvements to the cooking/ingredients would add much cost if any & would gain some clientelle from those not as forgiving of prepackaged food.

We made resv for 15 for 7:00pm, we were seated at 7:40pm. Our appitizers were less than average in taste but arrived within 30 minutes. Our entres took an additional hour to arrive. The food was not good. I had "grilled" chicken over noodles with a tomato sauce and cheese... this was supposed to be chicken parmigiana. Also - have the floors/carpet under the tables ever been cleaned? We had some young children who after 2 hours became a little restless and began moving around and playing under the tables... until we looked under them.

Server (Tinkerbell) was rude. Food was bland and not good at all – poor quality. We ordered desserts and had to wait a very long time. When dessert was finally served we had no flatware. We requested flatware, waited again a very long time. Someone from our party had to get up and go get the flatware. We ordered 2 desserts of the chocolate cake with ice cream which were placed on one plate with one scoop of ice cream even though we were sitting on opposite sides of the table. We were celebrating a birthday and the servers pulled our birthday recipient together with another person who was celebrating her birthday and sat them together to sing ‘happy birthday’. They brought out 1 'complementary' dessert to the birthday recipient however since our birthday person was pulled out with a stranger; our birthday recipient did not get a complementary dessert. This was awkward to all parties since we were strangers to each other. So our pictures of the celebration are with someone we don't even know. Our expectations were not even close to being met and I seriously doubt if we will ever patronize this establishment again.

Our waiter was Billy the Kid and other than the outfit, he did nothing to "be" the character. He totally screwed up 3 of our 4 orders (he admitted that it was his fault) and offered to take it back and replace it with correct order... or he would leave his mistake and have to charge us extra since they were higher priced menu items. The food was not very good other than the salad car. The place was deserted... and now I know why. This one trip broke a long happy memory of when the Magic Time Machine was a place to brag about.

Granted we went on a VERY crowded night, but it was very dirty including the bathroom and the floors in the restaurant which were VERY sticky. Not every waiter is created equally, there either. The lettuce at the salad bar was wilted. The place was very dated (old carpet). We thought that the servers (costumed) would all come by and we'd have more interactive experience. The costumes were really lame--Flying Dutchman and Cheshire Cat. There was only one other party in the restaurant and the hostess still made us wait. They asked us if it was our first time and made a big announcement so we had big expectations but really got no special treatment.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere, except when they took us to our table, the table was dirty and the chairs were all wet from the party before, but when we asked them to move us they did proptly...

Food is average, selection of items is average, price is high for what you get. We ahve gone annually for my son's birthday and this may be the last time. We spent $125 for 4 - no alcohol, the waitstaff aren't as engaged or as fun as they used to be.

Joker was our waiter, he was not really intrested in waiting on us and and flat out told us so. He said he was getting 18 percent so he didn't care. proceded to get all of the kids orders wrong and didn't even ask if we wanted dessert. too bad cause we all would have ordered it. will make sure to request not to have the joker again.

I was really disappointed in the lack of service from the server. There was no personability and there was no role playing untill it was mentioned at the end of the meal that many other servers were doing great things with their tables.

I first went to the time machine restaurant many years ago. After 15-20 years later, it still looks the same. the food quality for the money is just satisfactory. I have eaten better steaks at a lesser amount. the waitress was a great addition to the service provided. a sweet heart.

The girl answering the phone was rude both times I called for information. I had my daughters birthday dinner there (22 people) and when I called to find out what characters were available, she listed only 4. Once we got there, needless to say there were more than 4 characters. But it wasn't that busy for her to rush me off the phone and be short with me. Our host was awwesome, very engaging and funny. (Ace Ventura) The food unfortunately was not good at all, the appetizers were ok, but for the prices we expected better food. All in all my daughter enjoyed herself and for that day, that's all that mattered.

Food was awful and overpriced. We were looking to book a party of 25 people there. I was told the first time that I could rent out a room and have a fixed menu. I called today and they would not honor that. I will not be back. Great atmosphere, yucky food!

the service was amazing, we had daphne as our server. my kids loved her. the food was not good my husband got a steak and it was very tough and had alot of fat, i got the chicken parmesean which was cold and not tasty at all. my kids left their food behind too. If we would ever return it would be for the service and the atmosphere not the food.

Things had changed a little since the last time I had dined there, but the manager was accomodating. Our server was nice, but a little slow in filling drinks, bringing items, explaining when things were not available (like bread and butter). IT is always a fun place to be and the kids loved it for our little farewell dinner for one of them. The gift certificate really helped in bringing us somewhere nice like this!

This was the worst experience I have ever had in my 30+ years of going to MTM. Only one server in the whole place had any energy and tried to be in character. Service was terribly slow for a light crowd. seated quickly, but 20 mins to get a server to make first contact. Then an hour+ to get our food. Silverware was dirty and incomplete. Manager was at least nice and reduced the bill by more than half for our poor experience.

Let me start by saying that our waitress, (character named Daphne)was super and lots of fun. In addition, The Magic Time Machine is a fun place to take kids or for a birthday party. However, the food was not very good. I also visited the bar and was disappointed that you still allow smoking.

The whole experience was horrible. When I was seated I waited for about ten minutes when the hostess asked if we have been greeted and when I said no she asked if it was ok to move us to another table since the waiter had several tables. We were being seating right next to the salad bar and were being bumped by kids running by before we could even sit down so we asked if there was another table not in the walk way. When we were seated at our third table we waited another 10-15 before the waiter even came over to us. We gave him our drink order and meal selection and went to the salad bar. We were almost done with our salad and the waiter asked how everything was and then realized he never brought us drinks. We then waited another 5 minutes for the drinks when we were sitting next to the drink station. The waiter came to check on us and realized yet again we were just sitting there but this time waiting for our meal. He said it should be right up and went to the kitchen. When the food came out the plates were super hot but the food was cool which means it had been sitting under the heat lamp for some time. I cut into my filet and noticed that my medium rare steak was medium well (very little pink) and asked for it to be recook and my sons pizza as well since it was cold and hard. I took my children to the bathroom and when I returned the waiter stopped talking to the table next to us and said we fixed the pizza and your steak will be right out. All they did is put the pizza in the microwave. If I wanted reheated pizza I would have not paid $7.99 for this meal and stayed home and made a frozen pizza. My steak finally came out and this time was rare ice cold in the middle and had a horrible smell as if it was weeks old. I have worked in the restaurant business and I am familiar with how to cook steaks and this was not acceptable. I asked for the check and left after telling the waiter this was a horrible experience. He just said ok and brought the check. I will honestly say I will never go back ther

The waitress was excellent but the food was cold and not very appetizing. My prime rib was extremely tough and my husband had the ribs and they were definitly not "fall of the bone" quality. I'm sorry but I will not be dining there again and will not be able to verbalize a good review to my friends and co workers.

We do not live in San Antonio. So, we choose the restaurants by their participation in the restaurant.com discount, when we travel. Magic Time Machine is one of our favorite restaurants in any city and it is always a pleasure to make a special trip there when we are vacationing in San Antonio.

the quality of the food does not justify the price, but that is clearly compensation for the fun service. overall the experience is balanced well. I would go there again - for my kids.
