At arrival, we were told that restaurant was closed by one of the staff members. When we looked online, restaurant still had an 1 1/2 hour till closing. Im under impression they wanted to leave early because restaurant was not filled. We felt rushed and explained this to them. They did what they could to be more accomodating but the damage was done.

We first ate at this restaurant many years ago and have infrequently gone back. But the food is excellent. We were there to celebrate a birthday and we are planning to go back to celebrate another birthday in a few months.

Split decision. My group has been meeting there every couple months for years. The luncheon special has nearly doubled in price with the selection becoming much smaller. A disappointment. Food still top notch and service very good.

Service was wonderful we were seated immediately. very attentive waitstaff The food was excellent! Will definitely be back very soon. A little surprised they automatically added on a 15% tip even before knowing we were restaurant. Com participants but their loss because I might have given more.

Food was horrible. The clams in the white clam sauce was tough and over cooked. Sauce was extremely salty. Waitress was fast and efficient but food ruined our entire experience.

The food was just okay. I had to send my appetizer back for more cooking and the entrée had a lot cheese dumped on it by the expeditor and it just tasted of parmesan cheese. Overall experience was fair.

We split the bill equally between four, signed our cards receipts to later find out that we had been charged more than was on our bill. The manager gave us back the extra charge and explained it was a problem with the system. Even tho we were able to fix it, it was an uncomfortable situation and it shouldn't had happened. The food was amazing but the service not so much.

Very disappointed with the chicken parm today. The sauce tasted like it was from a jar; the chicken like the frozen cutlets from Trader Joe's. Had to ask for bread (which came after the appetizers were served) and needed a search party to get a check.

We all enjoyed lunching at Grotta Azzurra. Our waiter was simply terrific: pleasant, accommodating, lovely personality. As for the food, it was plentiful and delicious and served with just enough time in between courses to digest and relax before the additional courses were presented.An over-all delightful experience. We will definitely return to Grotta Azzurra and will tell our friends of this happy dining experience.

Lovely evening . Service was very good. Pleasant all around. Our food was very nice. Stuffed artichoke , chicken Marsala, arrabiata sace with shrimps and chicken Francais Delicious bread with olive oil. I asked for Parmesan and was given an ample ammount on a plate to dip with the bread. We would definitely return.

Thank you for accepting the Restaurant.com certificates -- one of the members of our 5-person group is unemployed and would not have been able to come to dinner if it wasn't for her certificate. (She doesn't like to make her friends pay for her, so using Restaurant.com's program makes her feel like she can pay her own way.) We will definitely return as long as the Restaurant.com program remains. The food was tasty and the service was great!

We expected more historical décor. A little disappointed. The wait staff was very attentive. There were several employees just standing around chatting and needed to be asked to allow room for people to pass by, I felt this was unprofessional.

A great Little Italy dining experience. We chose the prix fixe lunch special and were very happy with our selections. Everything was delicious. I would visit this restaurant next time we are in New York. The only thing I don't like is how they add the tip to the bill. I would rather choose my own tip to add.

Food took a long time to arrive. Then 2 people were served, followed by a third person 10 minutes later. Then the rest of us waited around for 15 more minutes before the rest of the entrees arrived. By that point the first two people were finished. We had 2 small children with us, and we arrived and ordered in an early, timely manner but the service was very disappointing. We asked for the remaining entrees to go. They did a poor job of packaging them up, just lazily flipping over a dish of crusted salmon so the fish was soggy, and not including dressing (or add-on roasted veggies that were ordered and charged on the bill) for a salad. They took 15% off the bill after we complained and the manager apologized but it still was upsetting. Not sure we will be back there for awhile after that experience. We usually love the food there but that's not enough to make us return.

The servers were really nice and the food was great, but it seemed like the servers were understaffed that day for lunch. The restaurant was pretty full, so we had to flag down the servers whenever we wanted something. They were prompt and polite with our requests, but they rarely came to the table to see how we were doing. Maybe that's the normal style for lunch service in that area.

Went for lunch. Didn't know if cioppino was a lunch entree or just dinner. It was available for lunch and all 3 of us ordered it. It was piping hot and satisfying. Service was prompt and courteous as always.

What we ordered did not come (a cream based dish was served to us when we did not order that; being vegan we would not make a mistake like that). When we informed the waiter he simply acted as if it were our fault. Mistakes happen and that's understandable; to avoid accountability is tacky.

The service wasn't so bad but it was the food that didn't pull It's part. I ordered a lasagna and it was horrible. Knowing that this was a mom and pops ran Italian restaurant I expected that the cuisine would be impeccable. But the tomato sauce was seemingly off a can and were not fresh, that is made from scratch. The antipasto was fair and the steak was OK. I expected more from a $140 dinner

Wine vintage provided was different than the year advertised. Ordered a 2009, given a 2010. I didn't mention it to the server only because the price was still remarkable for a restaurant setting and because I was in good company. I would have preferred the waiter mention to ask if it was ok (which I would have said yes) rather than try to get one over.

The food was phenomenal, but the service left much to be desired. One example of the poor service is that the server who brought out our entree plates didn't realize our empty appetizer plates were still in front of us. Instead of clearing the dirty appetizer plates from the table, he proceeded to hand each of us our entree plate, but we had nowhere to put it since we had a dirty plate in front of us. After handing out the entree plates, the server left the table and we didn't see him for quite some time. The people in my party had to pass around our dirty appetizer plates and we stacked them on an empty part of the table, and they stayed there for the entire meal. I've never experience such poor service in a restaurant before. The crowd was light, so it wasn't due to the restaurant being crowded....most tables were empty.
