At Restaurant.com, our team is as diverse as it is talented. We collectively do not have a single view, religion, sexual orientation, political stance or position. We have many. This is because we are a company made up of a diverse group of loyal, dedicated, talented individuals and I firmly believe that’s what makes us great.
When it comes to recognizing and applauding diversity, as a nation, we have traveled a long road that includes celebrating last year’s historic ruling to allow same-sex marriages. However, a law was recently passed that is a giant step in the wrong direction. Discriminatory legislation was signed into law in North Carolina that directly violates the civil rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people and allows for targeted discrimination throughout the state.
I cannot stay silent any longer as I witness our country move against the grain in which it was founded. While the HB 2 law attacks the LGBT community, this type of bigoted, discrimination lays the groundwork to target anyone based on race, religion or sexual orientation. Our political leaders and the U.S. government are in place to protect all of our citizens not to endorse and perpetuate systemic discrimination. It is such an incredible setback in civil and human rights and I wonder; who will be targeted next?
I believe that everyone deserves to be treated equally, living free of discrimination. As a result, I strive to work with restaurants, businesses and vendors that feel—and behave—that same way. Restaurants and dining are inclusive of everyone – everyone should enjoy the experiences that dining out brings without judgment.
I firmly believe if you are not a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem. As we get ready to join together with millions of individuals and companies in celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, we need to make our voices heard and let lawmakers know we oppose discriminatory laws, behavior and actions.
